Apple has announced a major update to Logic Pro, widely reported as Logic Pro 13, as part of an October 27 refresh of its Apple Creator Studio app bundle. The headline additions are an intelligent assistant (in beta) that can work inside your project, a Stem Splitter that now pulls drums apart into individual parts, and a redesigned Browser that searches your sounds by how they actually sound.
An assistant inside the DAW
The new assistant in Logic Pro for Mac runs on a mix of Apple-built and third-party models. Apple says it can help you navigate production workflows, start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt, or refine a project you're already working on. It launches as a beta.
Stem Splitter now separates drums
Stem Splitter, which arrived in Logic in 2024, can now split a drum recording into six stems: Kick, Snare, Hi-hat, Toms, Cymbals, and Other. That means you can isolate, replace, or rebalance individual drum parts in a mixed recording without the original multitracks, which is handy for remixing, sampling, and fixing a weak snare or a harsh hat.
A smarter Browser with Splice built in
- One Browser for everything: loops, instruments, effect patches, and more in a single place.
- Music understanding: an on-device analysis tool automatically analyzes, classifies, and tags the sounds you add.
- Natural-language and similar-sound search: type something like "heavy techno drums," or drag in a loop to find matching audio.
- Splice integration: the Splice library is available right in the Browser, following similar moves by Ableton and Avid.
Also new
- Liquid Glass redesign for Logic Pro on Mac and iPad, with translucent surfaces and deeper contrast around waveforms and tracks.
- Voice Memo Studio Sound reduces room ambience and background noise in recordings from supported iPhone models, with the option to keep refining them in Logic Pro.
- Sergio George Producer Pack with his signature piano sound plus salsa and Latin jazz loops, including a full salsa percussion section, brass ensemble, and basses.
Pricing and availability
The update arrives on the App Store in November 2026 and is free for existing Logic Pro owners and Creator Studio subscribers. New users can buy Logic Pro for Mac for $199.99 or subscribe to Apple Creator Studio for $12.99 per month or $129 per year (US pricing), with a one-month free trial. Logic Pro for Mac requires macOS 26.1 or later and an Apple silicon Mac. Full details are in Apple's announcement.
Why it matters
Drum separation is the practical win here: pulling a clean kick or snare out of a full drum bus used to mean multitracks or a dedicated third-party tool. The assistant is the bigger bet. If it can reliably handle setup chores like routing a vocal chain, it frees up time for the creative work, but how well it understands real sessions is something to test once it ships.
