UJAM has released DETUNICORN, a free hypersaw synthesizer plugin built for the huge, heavily detuned chords and stabs you hear in hyperpop, digicore, and modern dance pop. It's a Halloween release with a twist: UJAM is offering it for only 666 hours (about 27 days) from its October 21, 2026 launch. Download and activate it in that window and it's yours to keep.
A one-job synth for wall-of-sound saws
DETUNICORN doesn't try to be a full workstation. It's built around two supersaw oscillators plus a sub oscillator, stacked in up to four unison layers, so you get a big detuned sound right away without programming oscillators by hand.
The front panel has six controls:
- Big sets how many unison layers are stacked, adding density
- Detune spreads the oscillators for movement and stereo width
- Sub adds low end from the sub oscillator
- Bend adds an octave pitch sweep at the start of each note, from a quick blip to a slow rise
- Bite brightens or tames the top end
- Infinity controls a custom reverb made for the plugin
The mod wheel works a filter that darkens the sound as you push it up, and the synth responds to pitch bend. All six main controls can be automated in your DAW or mapped to a hardware controller with MIDI Learn.
Formats and system requirements
DETUNICORN runs as VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX (64-bit only) on Windows 10 and 11 and macOS Big Sur through macOS Tahoe, on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs. UJAM lists 8 GB of RAM and about 0.3 GB of disk space as the minimum. You install and authorize it through the UJAM App, and you'll need a UJAM account.
Why it matters
Hypersaw sounds are everywhere right now, and while synths like Serum or Vital can make them, getting the stacking and detune right takes time. DETUNICORN is a fast, free shortcut for producers who already know the sound they want. Since it's only free for a limited time, it's worth grabbing now even if you don't need it today.
